Kids are great imitators, so give them something good to imitate. Start acting like an individual who prioritises fitness and health over being lazy and overeating.
Kids today aren’t as active as they used to be in the past. Yes they take part in organised school sports and events, but as we know these activities aren’t nearly enough of an outlet to prevent them from becoming overweight or obese. Childhood obesity is becoming more prevalent and we as parents and adults are the ones that can either contribute to it or we can help to prevent it.
The straight up fact is, that kids today are lazy. Technology and other socioeconomic factors are major contributing culprits in the societies we live in today. It’s not as safe to play outside or to walk or ride your bike to and from school.
This is where you as a parent should take control. Sign them up for a kids fitness class. These classes are FUN and energetic. Not only do your kids burn some unwanted calories, but they become stronger and fitter and they expand their skill sets. Besides the regular benefits of daily exercise, fit kids sleep better. They're also better equipped to handle physical and emotional challenges - from running to catch a ball to studying for a test.
Kids learn and pick up habits from the lifestyle choices and routines we as grown ups make. Teach them early on to make good food choices. Teach them that having a strong, fit and healthy body does not only make you physically feel good, but also gives you a mental edge in this game of life.
Be that role model and become the person you wish your kids to become one day. Not everyone is destined to be a sports star. But everyone should aim to become their healthiest and happiest self.
