BAD DAYS, BURPEES & SILVER LININGS

They come and they go. Sometimes they seem to stay around for longer than they should or what we’d hope. We all experience them, we all feel them and we all very much hate them.

But as much as we don’t like them (like burpees) we get through them and then the sun always seems to shine the next day.

The best I’ve learned is that when you do have these days, it’s best to allow yourself to feel them. A problem we tend to experience with bad days is that they seem to carry over into other things we attempt for that day, like for instance our workout.

Some people have the superpower to turn these bad day feels into amazing training days. They PB a lift, they run their best times on a 5km or they manage to get a pull up or even better a muscle up.

But we’re not all the same. For some of us these days turn in to be horrible training days. We don’t PB a ift, we sometimes don’t even manage to get through the warm up without wanting to break into tears. And knowing that this happens we then skip our workout all together.

If you are part of the latter I’m here to tell you straight up that there is a silver lining for this dark cloud of bad feels.

  1. DON'T skip your workout

  2. Opt for LISS (Low Intensity Steady State Cardio)

  3. You’ll thank me afterwards

LISS training is referred to as low intensity cardio workouts for typically 30-60min minutes that is performed at an RPE (rate of perceived exertion) of 5-6. Not only will you be stuck in the fat burning sweet spot, but other benefits may include improved blood flow, reduced stress and improved brain function.

“Coach does this mean I should leave my workout and go for a run instead?”

No not necessarily! If you feel the need for some peace and quiet, then yes the gym will not be your friend that day. But ultimately if you think being around your workout buddies will improve your mood, then hell yes jump in pal. You can still workout with your friends and move at a slower pace, grab a lighter bar or dumbbell, or skip the weights all together and just move with the class doing bodyweight movements.

You’ll still burn calories, you’ll still get stronger and fitter, and your mood and emotions will thank you shortly after.

Bad days don’t last, just like workouts with burpees - they too have a time cap. You just have to learn to get your game plan straight and have a plan B to back yourself up. Just like you deal with burpees, get to know yourself, know how to deal with your bad days.

3, 2, 1...GO! You jump back, you lie down, you jump back up. And sooner than you think the workout is over and you smashed it.

Knowing how to deal with it, that is where your superpower resides. That is where we become better human beings and that is where we as people grow.

Take action, having a bad day with friends is better than having a good day all by yourself.

Why wait?. Let us help you create discipline and achieve balance.
