Winter is coming!
As the sun is setting on yet another summer season and temperatures are slowly dropping, by default we as humans tend to be less active. This is not because we are lazy (well let's hope not), but simply a survival mechanism. The human brain is constantly in fight or flight mode, monitoring and observing our environments to keep us safe and out of harm's way.
The change in season and drop in temperature outside automatically triggers a safety mechanism in the brain telling our bodies to be less active and to eat up. This dates back to the caveman era where this was the body’s way of preserving energy to keep us alive and warm when food availability was minimum and weather conditions were anything but optimal to hunt and gather.
I’m sure you’ll be like “I’m not a caveman and this isn’t the Ice Age!” You are correct, but although our environments have changed significantly since then our brains are by default in caveman mode. Thus you will be less likely to want to go to the gym, and you’ll be wanting to eat everything to keep you warm from the cold.
