HOW TO GET YOUR FIRST PULL UP

 

Are you struggling to get your first strict pull-up?

Pull-ups can be a sensitive topic especially when it comes to women. For men pull-ups can be easily developed, whereas women tend to struggle a lot more and even more so when they don’t have any athletic background.

We are all uniquely different. Some ladies get their first strict pull-up within a few weeks, while others take a bit longer.

I speak from my own personal experience what it is like - it took me about a year to get my first strict pull-up. Frustrated at having to scale down in workouts (jumping pull ups and rings rows) all the time, I took a step back and started doing accessory exercises. 

Not long after I managed to hit my first chin up. I know it is not a pull-up, but this achievement was a huge win both physically and mentally. Although it was only a single chin up, it gave me the motivation to keep grinding away at the process. After a few months of chipping away with the boring stuff I got my first strict pull-up. 

The scaled options provided in the workouts are not merely enough to get you to the top of the mountain. They are made available to make you efficient in the workout, to not slow you down and to keep the intensity and stimulus that is intended.

After my victory of achieving my first strict pull-up I started doing multiple single strict pull-ups, even if it took me half an hour to get my 5 reps done for the day, I did it. ONLY As I got stronger and better, I started working on kipping pull ups. Attempting kipping pull ups before you have the necessary strength will just lead to injuries, as the joints are placed under enormous stress by the forces created from the kip.

This does not however say you cannot practice good kipping technique while still focusing on your end goal. But just jumping up and starting swinging like a monkey is probably not the best idea.
