The past weekend we celebrated our 8th Birthday. To say that we are proud to have made it to 8 successful years is an understatement. But we made it and are so excited for the next eight years, and the next 8 after that.
What is now a big facility of around 500 square meters, started out as 3 people training on the sports field of one of the local schools in the area. Fast forward a few years and we are providing daily fitness fun and changing lives to over a 100 people per month. This was by no means an easy ride. And to say it was smooth sailing all the way, I would also be lying.
This kind of made me realise again that we always put happiness as our end goal. “When I lose 5kg’s - I will be happy”, or “When I can squat 100 kg's - I will be happy”, when in actual fact once you reach that goal, you will not be happy since you will immediately set a new goal and tell yourself the same old story.
I told myself for years, that once we move to a bigger facility, I will be happy. Once we have so many clients, I will be happy. When in actual fact I had happiness all along. My happiness came in changing other people’s lives. Changing their fitness levels, their mindsets, their health status, their mental status, or whatever it was that made them a better human being when they left the gym. My community became my happiness. Strangers that turned into friends and friends that turned into family.
Find happiness in the process. The road to success is a long one, and it’s never ending. It’s also a journey that you cannot embark on by yourself. You need a team, you need people to help you out, to set you straight when your ego steps in, people that support you in the good and bad times. This road never stops and it’s never a straight and narrow path.
You want to lose weight, you want to get stronger, you want to run faster. That is great and you should want all of those things, but you should also know that life will happen, setbacks will happen and that every now and again you will need to adjust your sails and change course. This doesn’t mean that your end goal has changed, it just means your way of getting there might look a bit different.
What looks like an overnight success, is in actual fact years of grinding away. Years of trials and errors, long tears, heart breaks and failures. Anything that happens overnight, will also be taken away overnight.
Weight Loss, fitness, getting stronger and healthier, like success takes years to attain, and once you do get it, it takes even more hard work to keep it. You might not be where you want to be, but not getting started and chipping away at your goal is also not getting you to that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Whether you start today or in 3 months from now, the time will pass either way. Start now. Imperfect starts can be improved. But you have to get started.
Get started today you don’t need to do this alone. You don’t need to have all the answers when you start. But you do need to get grinding away, because the clock is ticking and time waits for no one. What will your success story be in 8 days, 8 weeks, 8 months or even 8 years from now?
